With Obamacare apparently under threat from the incoming Donald Trump administration, health insurance in Hollywood isn’t a safe bet either — even for Annet Mahendru. The actress, who earned a Critics’ Choice nom for playing KGB operative Nina Krilova on the FX Cold War drama The Americans and also appeared on its now-canceled Tyrant, says she has lost her union health insurance after missing a payment while she was working out of town.
Mahendru took to Twitter tonight to express her displeasure with the actors union over her recent lack of health insurance:
Although Mahendru has no health care at the moment, it appears that SAG-AFTRA already is on the case. Union spokeswoman Pam Greenwalt responded to a Deadline tweet tonight with this:
Deadline was unable to reach Mahendru or her reps for comment.
After maintaining separate health care plans for SAG and AFTRA since the groups’ merger in 2012, SAG-AFTRA said in June that it will merge the plans at the beginning on 2017. The plans will allow more than 65,000 SAG-AFTRA participants and their dependents to combine covered earnings from all of the guild’s contracts toward eligibility for coverage in a single plan. With medical through Anthem Blue Cross and dental via Delta Dental, the earnings requirement for Plan 1 will be $33,000, while the requirement for Plan II will be $17,000.
