Well, things quickly took a turn for Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson.
The newlywed couple, who just announced that they’re expecting their first child together yesterday, are heading to splitsville after Griner filed papers seeking to annul her 29-day marriage to Johnson.
“Last Wednesday, Glory and I agreed to either legally separate, get divorced, or annul our marriage,” Griner said in a statement Friday (via ESPN).
“I can confirm that today I filed for an annulment. In the week prior to the wedding, I attempted to postpone the wedding several times until I completed counseling, but I still went through with it. I now realize that was a mistake.”
The court documents reportedly include “void based on fraud,” as reasoning for the annulment, adding that “Petitioner was pressured into marriage under durress by Respondent’s threatening statements.”
And although Griner’s statement suggests Johnson was fully aware of what was going to take place, Johnson told TMZ that she was blindsided by the news that Griner had filed paperwork for an annulment.

Earlier today, Johnson posted a photo of Griner holding on to her stomach and wrote, “One day until I’m reunited with my Wife @brittneygriner…This is about to be one CRAZY SUMMER!!! #TooExcited #NewLife #NewAdditionToTheFamily.” Yeah, crazy is one way to put it.
The pair got married on May 8, just three weeks after both were arrested in Arizona on domestic violence charges. And yesterday, they announced Johnson is pregnant with their first child.
“It has always been a dream of mine to start a family with someone I love,” Johnson said in a statement provided by the Tulsa Shock. “Being a professional athlete that plays year round, there is never a perfect time to get pregnant without putting my career on hold.
“The entire process, from learning our fertility options, to making sacrifices necessary nine months before the child is born, is merely preparing me to become a great wife and an even better mother.”
