Prince Charles wanted a granddaughter, and he got one!
Two days ago, he told a 100-year-old military veteran, “We’re hoping for a granddaughter!” It was the second time he commented on the royal baby’s sex, as he shared similar sentiments after Kate’s pregnancy was first revealed in 2014.
Prinz William and Kate Middleton welcomed their little princess Saturday morning. “The baby weighs 8 lbs., 3 oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth,” Kensington Palace told E! News in a statement, adding, “Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”
The couple’s baby girl joins big brother Prinz George, 21 months.
When George was born in 2013, he weighed 8 lbs., 6 oz.
Following the announcement of the princess’ birth, standing on the steps of the Lindo Wing, unofficial town crier Tony Appleton told the crowds of admirers, “We welcome with humble duty the new baby of their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The princess is fourth in line to the throne.”
The newborn’s name will be revealed in due time.
The royal family was informed of the birth, and later that morning, Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles issued a statement of their own. “The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are ‘absolutely delighted’ at the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s daughter,” Clarence House told E! News.

Charles and Camilla’s whereabouts are unknown, though they are thought to be in the London area. Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Andrew traveled to Richmond, North Yorkshire, for an event. William’s brother, Prince Harry, is in Australia to spend time with Australian Army units in Perth and Sydney. The prince will embark on an official tour of New Zealand, starting May 9 and ending May 16.
William and Kate’s daughter is the first princess born into the royal family in 25 years, the last being Princess Eugenie on March 23, 1990. There have been other girls, including Lady Louise Windsor and Mia Tindall.
