Jada Pinkett Smith To Leave ‘Gotham’ After End Of

Jada Pinkett Smith has revealed that she won’t be returning for the second series of ‘Gotham’. During a Friday morning appearance on ‘Live with Kelly and Michael’, the actress was asked whether she would be continuing her role on the hit Fox show.

“I don’t think so, no. I signed for a year, and the year is up. But, there are some great things coming ahead on ‘Gotham’: believe you me, there’s a lot of good stuff coming.” In response to Smith’s revelation, the show’s producers released a statement about her character Fish Mooney’s storyline.

“Fish Mooney’s storyline takes a lot of interesting twists and turns into the finale of season one,” the short statement read. No more details have been given by either the network or the studio, leaving viewers on tenterhooks ahead of the finale.

Interestingly, that statement neither confirms nor denies whether Smith’s statement is true, leaving open the possibility that this is simply part of a negotiation for a contract extension. Assuming the series doesn’t end with her character’s death, it’s easy to imagine the door being left open for her to make guest appearances in future episodes.

She acknowledged this in the interview, saying “she could show up anywhere, you never know!” The 43 year old actress, married to movie star Will Smith, signed on to star as the Penguin’s boss and mentor Fish Mooney in the series that was billed as Commissioner Jim Gordon’s origin story.

Speaking about her experience filming ‘Gotham’, Smith expressed satisfaction with her role. “I get to play a character who gets to do extreme things. She’s evil — that’s always fun,” she said. “I’m having a good time.”

The second series of ‘Gotham’ was green-lit by Fox back in mid-January, along with fellow drama ‘Empire’ and the popular comedy ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’.
