This round of the weekend box office is ruled, by and large, by R-rated comedies. 22 Jump Streetcontinued its successful run from last week, but its $ 29 million taking over the three-day perion was only good enough for second place. The top spot this weekend is occupied by another sequel, Think Like A Man Too, which took $ 30 million in the U.S. and Canada, according to estimates from its distributor Sony, via the LA Times. This means that both the winner and runner up this week hail from the same company, a rare win, even for a film giant like Sony.
Jump Street had to take a back seat had to take a back seat this week to Kevin Hart’s latest offering.
Think Like A Man Too’s debut is just $ 3 million shy of the first film’s debut. The original was based on Steve Harvey’s book Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man. Released in 2012, the film was directed by Tim Story and headlined by Kevin Hart.
“I think this proves that funny is funny,” said Rory Bruer, head of distribution at Sony, in regards to media’s tendency to qualify the success of films with minority-heavy casts. “There is no doubt that Kevin Hart spreads a wide net to a very diverse audience, as does the rest of that cast.”

It was clearly enough to make Think Like A Man the second hit in a row. The question now is, how long can it retain audience interests? The Sony/Screen Gems battle-of-the-sexes comedy, which cost $ 24 million to produce, played in 2,225 theaters and earned an A- CinemaScore despite little critical praise. It was mostly popular with women and young people. Ladies made up the bulk of the audience at 63%, with 41% of the crowd under the age of 30.

Third in the charts this week was DreamWorks Animation’s “How to Train Your Dragon 2.” The Fox-distributed film took the third slot with $ 25.3 million in its second week, about a 49% drop from its opening.
