Zooey Deschanel loves being a new mom.
So when the time came to become Jess Day again, the 35-year-old actress found it wasn’t that easy.
The New Girl star gushed about her new baby daughter, Elsie Otter Pechenik, in an interview with E! News’ Kristin Dos Santos at the FOX comedy’s 100th episode celebration on Wednesday. The fifth season is set to premiere on Jan. 5 and features Megan Fox, who stepped in as a guest star while Deschanel was on maternity leave.
“When you’re holding your baby, you’re like, ‘I don’t wanna go to work—this is like the best thing ever,'” the actress told E! News. “But it’s nice, you know, I think, having a little girl, she knows her mommy works and I think that’s a good thing.”
In August, the actress’ rep revealed the actress and partner Jacob Pechenick welcomed their baby girl and got married secretly.

Fox, 29, shares two sons, Noah, 3, and Bodhi, 2, with ex Brian Austin Green, 42.
“It’s tough,” she told E! News. “You feel like a lot of mother’s guilt, having to leave [your child] all the time and then at a certain point, I had to just release that and go, ‘There are my kids, these souls came through me for a reason, they’re gonna be bonded to me no matter what and this is a part of life. I have a job, I have to have a job.'”
“So I’m doing better with it,” she said. “But it’s hard because you feel like that’s where you’re supposed to be and you’re very torn, constantly.”
