James Franco has recruited a cabal of pals for his “proto-punk Forrest Gump goes to 1970’s Hollywood” lit adaptation Zeroville, now filming in LA. Joining Franco and the recently announced Jacki Weaver are Franco’s The Interview co-star Seth Rogen, Megan Fox, Danny McBride, Dave Franco, Craig Robinson, Joey King, and Horatio Sanz. Franco is directing and stars as a naive loner who’s drawn to the film business, becomes mistaken for a Manson family member and gets hired as a film editor. Paul Felton and Ian Olds adapted the script from Steve Erickson’s 2007 novel. Franco is producing with Vince Jolivette for Rabbit Bandini Productions, Caroline Aragon, and Michael Mendelsohn for Patriot Pictures. Union Patriot Capital Management financed the pic and Embankment is selling internationally next month at AFM.

Brad Carter RevenantBrad Carter (True Detective, Sons of Anarchy) has been cast in Fox and New Regency’s The Revenant opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy. Birdman helmer Alejandro González Iñárritu is directing and producing the 1820s-set adventure/drama about a frontiersman who sets out for revenge against the ex-pals who left him for dead. González Iñárritu scripted with Mark L. Smith. Set to star in SyFy’s upcoming series Ascension, Carter currently plays Aryan Brotherhood tough Leland Gruen on FX’s Sons of Anarchy. He’s repped by Luber Roklin Entertainment and Talentworks.

Noah Segan War PigsLooper‘s Noah Segan has locked a role opposite Luke Goss, Mickey Rourke, and Dolph Lundgren in the currently-filming WWII actioner War Pigs. Directed by Ryan Little (Saints & Soldiers), War Pigs tracks a ragtag band of Army misfits tasked with killing Nazis behind enemy lines. Segan plays Sergeant August Chambers, whose band of soldiers fall under the command of a dishonored Captain (Goss) and a French Foreign Legionnaire (Lundgren). Andre Relis’ LA-based WMI Worldwide is producing and rolled War Pigs into its output deal with Cinedigm earlier this year.

Segan (Brick, Deadgirl) will next head to San Francisco to film Cardinal X, exec produced by Dallas Buyers‘ Club’s Cassian Elwes and Fruitvale Station‘s Rick Bosner. The drug drama written and directed by Angie Wang follows a working class Asian-American woman who transforms her life by slinging Ecstasy to pay for college. Segan’s upcoming slate of films include the acclaimed SXSW horror pic Starry Eyes, Chilean actioner Redeemer opposite Marko Zaror, the ’80s-style actioner Chuck Hank and the San Diego Twins, and ghost tale Some Kind Of Hate for director Adam Mortimer. He’s repped by Untitled Entertainment and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler & Feldman.
