Zac Efron Twerks in Tight Leather Pants and Give Ellen DeGeneres

Zac Efron put the moves on Ellen DeGeneres Wednesday.

Channeling Ricky Martin circa 1999 in tight leather pants, the Dirty Grandpa actor appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and agreed to play a game of her popular app “Heads Up!” In honor of Efron’s new movie, co-starring Robert De Niro and in theaters Friday, DeGeneres picked the “Bad Behavior” deck and made her guest act out various scenes as she guessed what they were.

The first phrase was “lap dance,” and Efron wasted no time getting out of his seat, putting one of his legs on DeGeneres’ chair and gyrating his hips right in front of her face. He had a bit more trouble acting out “Tinder” (DeGeneres thought he was “sexting”) and blushed while “making out” with his hand. When “twerking” appeared next, Efron clapped his hands and yelled, “S–t!” With the audience cheering him on, Efron stood up, bent over, put his hands on his knees and shook his butt. DeGeneres guessed correctly right away, while Efron hid his face with his hands.

When he had to act out “skinny-dipping,” the audience cheered, likely thinking he would take off his shirt to reveal his famously fit figure. Alas, Efron kept it PG, miming the action instead. The buzzer sounded just before DeGeneres correctly guessed “handcuffs,” and Efron admitted he could have done a better job. “I knew what twerking was. I should have just gone for it,” he said. “I should have just gone for the twerking. Whenever anyone tells you to twerk, just do it.”

Efron didn’t appear on the show just to play games, of course.

The 28-year-old actor was on hand to promote Dirty Grandpa, which he called a “fantastic” experience—particularly thanks to his co-star. “We made a really cool movie. The movie, it’s this road trip comedy about a grandfather and grandson who sort of get roped into going on this crazy adventure. It’s full of heart,” Efron said. “Working with De Niro was really fantastic because I got to get to know the legend, but it was also really awkward at moments cause I’ve seen virtually everything this guy’s done. I mean, I’ve seen every film I can quote him verbatim in half of his movies, if I can even reach half. He’s never seen a single thing that I’ve done, like at all. So every single time we show up to work there’s sort of that awkward moment where it’s like we have to acknowledge that you’re the greatest of all time, and I’m…You know, what could you have possibly even seen that I would have been a part of? High School Musical?”
