Karen O has announced that she’ll be releasing her first album of solo recorded material this autumn. Titled Crush Songs, the record will apparently touch on the Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman’s experiences in love and will be released via Julian Casablancas’ record label.

Karen has recently made an impact with her solo singing projects, having been nominated for an Oscar for her Her soundtrack song, ‘The Moon Song.’ The success of her Spike Jonze movie track as well as the strong reception she received performing it live at this year’s Academy Awards has probably boosted the 35 year-old singer’s solo confidence.

The singer-songwriter revealed the news via her website where she also provided a glimpse at the album’s cover art as well as a written explanation of her motives behind Crush Songs. “Uhm when I was 27 I crushed a lot,” she writes.

“I wasn’t sure I’d ever fall in love again. These songs were written and recorded in private around this time. They are the soundtrack to what was an ever continuing LOVE CRUSADE. I hope they keep you company on yours,” she wrote before signing her initials.

The touching cover art features a hand-drawn image of a boy and girl in a passionate embrace, depicted via a simple blue line drawing.

Although Crush Songs is Karen’s first official solo release, another album of solo, home-recorded album titled KO at Home was gifted to Dave Sitek of the NYC band, TV On The Radio, but later leaked by a fan who discovered the CD when Sitek accidentally left it behind in 2006. Sitek and Karen condemned the leak but Karen’s ultimate response was “s**t happens.”

Karen famously dated filmmaker Spike Jonze and Liars lead singer Angus Andrew before she met director Barnaby Clay and married him in 2011.

Karen O’s Crush Songs will be released on the 8th September in the UK and the 9th September in the US via Cult.
