We bought this digital piano for our teenage son who is learning to play the piano. He liked this particular one because of all the ones he tried, this one had the most piano-like feel to it. Other, less-expensive keyboards, such those from Korg or Casio, had a much lighter touch of the keys. The Yamaha YDP161 has a more substantial and realistic keyboard touch that feels much more like the grand piano he is using during his lessons. The sound quality was excellent and he can use headphones when he doesn’t want to disturb other household members when he is practicing. The piano itself looks fairly nice and it does not take up a lot of room. At almost 100 lbs, this is not what I would consider to be a portable digital piano but it feels sturdy enough to play on a regular basis. The built-in metronome is a nice feature. I think this is an excellent digital piano in lieu of a real, more expensive, piano. It may not be the best if you want a range of instrument voices or features but for basic piano playing and learning, it has everything one would want.

I cant believe no one has made a review on this color. i choose this one over the redwood one, because the black one is exclusive to the YDP-161, so people wont confuse it with the YDP-141 (Only available in redwood).

I have to tell you something this piano is amazing!! I didnt buy it from amazon, because i live in another country and is a pain to get this heavy instrusment here. So i went to a Yamaha local store, I tried this one and the YDP- 141. The biggest difference you can tell right away is the keyboard. The 141 feels more plasticky and it is lighte, it does not put resistance when you press the key. The 161, on the other hand, keyboard feels like a real piano, keys are harder to press, also feels more real, making playing music on the 161 much more enjoyable. Also other difference is that the 161 have a headphone hanger ( I have some photos of it check it out ). As far as sound goes I didnt notice any difference, maybe because I am no a professional player, but checking the details the 161 have twice more polyphony than the 141 which means the 161 is more able to produce more sound and at better quality. So for 400 hundred dollars more, is obvious to buy the 161, if you can only afford the 141, I suggest you to save until you got enought for the 161, because you are doing a long-time investment and it is best to get a better one, since you are gonna use the piano for all the years to come, right?

If you want to see how the sound is, check my youtube channel here is a link:
