It’s been 20 years since Danny Boyle rounded up Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle to spawn a global phenomenon with the film adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s Trainspotting. Now we’ve got the full official trailer for the sequel, T2 Trainspotting, which reunites Boyle with the principal cast and screenwriter John Hodge. Check it out above as McGregor’s Renton again runs through a choose life monologue that echoes the 1996 film’s opening scenes — with an updated litany.

The original movie brought together a misfit group of Edinburgh-based junkies — Renton, Spud (Bremner), Sick Boy (Miller) and Begbie (Carlyle). Although much has changed since then, some things remain the same as Renton returns to the only place he can ever call home.

The boys are there waiting, but other old friends are also waiting, lined up to welcome him and join the dance. Those would be: sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction and mortal danger.

The first film grossed about $72M worldwide and launched the careers of many involved. Hodge’s script received an Oscar nomination.

McGregor reunited with Boyle for T2 immediately after helming his first feature, American Pastoral. “I did my last day in the sound mix for American Pastoral on a Friday and I flew to Scotland on a Monday to start on Trainspotting 2, ” he recently told Deadline’s Joe Utichi. “It was an extraordinary situation, because we were revisiting Trainspotting and I was playing Renton again, which was great and a joy.”

Film4 developed and co-financed T2 Trainspotting with regular Boyle collaborator Christian Colson producing alongside Bernard Bellow and Andrew Macdonald. Sony’s TriStar Pictures acquired world rights in late 2015 and rollout begins in the UK on January 27 followed by the North American debut on November 3.
