Fans of ‘The Walking Dead’ have been treated to three action-packed episodes of the series since the show’s eighth season debuted in October, and it looks as if that’s something that will continue into the foreseeable future, as showrunners have had to nearly double the running time of this season’s upcoming midseason finale.

Usually, episodes will last around 42 minutes, but instead of that usual hour (including adverts), the midseason finale will be 88 minutes in the United States, including adverts. We imagine the reasoning behind the added time will be revealed in due course, but in the past midseason finales have included many twists, turns, deaths and a lot of destruction. With ‘All Out War’ taking place between Rick Grimes’ (Andrew Lincoln) band of survivors and Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) loyal group of Saviors, that’s something we imagine will crop up once more.
Executive producer Greg Nicotero will helm the episode, following his work as director on the first episode of season 8 earlier this year.
Since season 8 started, fans have seen Rick and his comrades really bring the fight to Negan, taking a number of outposts and slaughtering legions of Saviors, whilst also losing some of their own. One of the most notable came in last week’s episode, where Aaron (Ross Marquand) lost his life partner Eric (Jordan Woods-Robinson), in some of the series’ most emotional scenes to-date.
With more like it right around the corner (if the comic books are to be followed), we think season 8 is going to continue to be a rollercoaster ride that takes us through all sorts of emotions. We can’t wait to see what happens next.
