The Flash Has Major Mama Drama—Find Out Why Joe Wants His

The West family is about to experience some MAJOR drama on The Flash now that Francine West, aka Iris’ mom and Joe’s wife, is back in Central City. The problem? Joe doesn’t want his ex in town. Oh, and also, she’s supposed to be dead.

We haven’t heard much about Francine, but we know she wasn’t around during Iris’ childhood. Joe told everyone she was dead, so that’s why he isn’t exactly pleased that she has returned. In E! News’ exclusive clip of “Family of Rogues,” Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and Francine (Vanessa Williams) discuss her shocking return after 20 years.

Francine is happy to note that Joe is still wearing his wedding ring, but he has strong words for his ex: “Divorced men take them off. Widowers don’t.” He passes her an envelope of cash and tells her to leave town.

But Mama West isn’t too happy with this proposal. “You thought you could pay me to walk away from my own daughter?” she asks.

“Last time you walked away for free,” Joe shoots back.

Oh snap, Joe! But his answer doesn’t exactly sit well with Francine, who wants to make amends with Iris (Candice Patton). “No amount of money could keep me away from my daughter,” she says. “Now I’m different. Now I’m ready.”

It doesn’t appear that Joe will be successful in his quest to get Francine to leave town without Iris finding out. Todd Helbing, co-executive producer and writer of the episode that introduced Francine to the show, “The Flash of Two Worlds,” hinted to E! News and other reporters that Francine’s arrival will affect Iris in a big way.

“Iris obviously has this conception about her mother and her being away from her her whole life, and I’m sure you can imagine learning that is not the case can sort of turn your world upside down,” he said, “so that’s the jumping off point that she’s going to be starting with.”
