The Bachelor, Ben Higgins

Former Bachelor Ben Higgins has definitely got a lot on his plate.

According to The Colorado Independent, the 28-year-old reality show star has announced that he is “seriously considering a run” for a seat in the Colorado House of Representatives to represent House District 4. The software consultant has already begun campaigning with a website, Ben Higgins for Colorado, to rally local supporters. The website reads, “Thank you for your support as Ben explores his opportunities to make a positive impact on his local community!”

Higgins is hoping to takeover for a spot currently held by Speaker Pro Tempore Dan Pabon, an unfavorable candidate at the moment after a recent arrest for suspicion of DUI on St. Patrick’s Day. The Republicans in Higgins’ district have already nominated candidate Willie Pinkston to run against Pabon.

When asked about Higgin’s potential foray into the political race, Pinkston told The Independent that he “definitely plan[s] on stepping aside,” when the former Bachelor decides to run. He adds, “I’d be happy to. He’s got name recognition…We’d love to support him since he wants to run and is capable.”

When asked about his new career shift, Higgins told The Independent, “Whatever lies ahead, love, grace, and hope are ideals that guide my life. I will take them with me into my next adventure.”

Potential political career aside, Higgins also has an exciting year ahead with wedding plans to 26-year-old fiancée, Lauren Bushnell, whom he met on season 20 of the ABC show. If his name is on the ballot, Higgins is unsure what that will mean for their future. “Lauren and I aren’t sure yet what that will be, but in terms of representing House District Four,” he said. “Willie Pinkston is an amazing person and any decision I make regarding entering the race will be based on what is best for Willie, his family and for Lauren and me.”

From what we know, it seems like Ben is really serious about putting his name in the hat for the race. The Independent also reports that the reality star has begun speaking with local lawmakers about state-level politics and policy.

As for the wedding, no word yet on the upcoming nuptials, but Ben has shared with E! News a hopeful timeline for their special day. “I would love to do 2016, early 2017,” he said. “I don’t want to rush it to the point where it’s stressful, but I also don’t want to wait too long.”

Looks like 2016 could turn out to be an exciting year for the former reality star!
