Texas Student Gets DWI, Drives Little Pink Barbie Jeep to School

Remember that Mean Girls scene where Regina George rolled up in her hot car and said to Cady: “Get in loser, we’re going shopping!” Well, this story is like that.

Except instead of a high school student, it’s a college junior. And instead of a hot car, it’s a hot pink motorized Barbie Jeep. And instead of saying “get in loser, we’re going shopping,” this girl is probably yelling: “don’t get in, losers. This car will literally fall apart if you one more person sits in it. Also we’re not going shopping, we’re going to traffic school!”

Texas State student Tara Monroe found herself in a bit of a pickle recently. Well, it was more than a pickle because she was driving while intoxicated which is one of the most irresponsible, dangerous things you can do with a vehicle. But anyway.

After Tara, an industrial engineering major, lost her drivers license for failing a breathalyzer test that she had to take after a Waka Flocka Flame concert, her dad took away her car and gave her a bike to use as transportation to, from and around campus. Well, Tara wasn’t about to do that, dad. GAWD.

“Riding a bike around campus sucks,” she told MySA.com. “Like really sucks.”

It liked, really sucked so much that she decided a more convenient, logical and appropriate mode of transportation was a toy meant for a toddler. So she got herself a hot pink Barbie Jeep and started rolling in that.

At 5-foot-3, she fits pretty snuggly in the motorized vehicle that she got off Craigslist for $ 60. Charlene, as Tara calls it, goes up to 5mph on a 12-volt battery. Now she’s kind of a local celebrity, and people look out for her when they drive around that part of town.

“People who don’t know me are shocked but my friends weren’t even surprised because I do stuff like this all the time,” she said. “It goes pretty fast when it’s just me, so I usually make [my friends] walk behind me like parents taking their kid out to play. I’m just happy everyone thinks this is so hilarious.”

While your choice of vehicle is pretty funny, how you got into this situation is not. Never drink and drive again, young lady. There is nothing funny about that.
