    Great way to learn!, September 10, 2013

    I’m a beginner and have been trying to teach myself for the past year. Before buying Rock Prodigy, I would try to find lessons on youtube for beginners and start from there. However, this did NOT work for me. There was a lot of scattered information out there and it was very difficult to know where to start and continue building up my guitar skills. These lessons are simple, fun, and easy to follow! It’s such a great way to learn and much faster than I would have done anything on my own!

    I’ve always struggled with learning guitar. The most difficult part was in between lessons when at home…trying to remember the chords and hear the music in my head. Sheet music, always static, would just stare back at me. Frustrating! Sure, there are videos on YouTube, but it’s usually some dude in his boxer shorts sitting in his basement trying to show you how cool he can play while his cat walks across the coffee table in the background. Not exactly helping my specific challenges buddy…

    With the Music Prodigy platform, it not only allows me to see the chord progression in tab format scrolling across the screen and hear the music as I work through the song at my own speed, but it also listens to what I’m playing and tells me if I’m correctly strumming the chords (immediately). It’s truly interactive sheet music that tracks my progress based on what I actually play. And I can source a robust library of lessons to keep me on track, understand nuances or help me move forward more quickly. I’ve spent hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars on guitar lessons only to quit for extended periods. Since I’ve been working through the Music Prodigy lessons, I am actually excited again to get home and pick up my guitar. I’m amazed at how much fun it is to play the guitar again!!

    The Rock Prodigy Guitar course is a challenging and fun way to learn guitar. I found that I was able to make progress quite quickly with the opportunity to receive feedback on every note attempted. In the PC version of the course you receive feedback on the notes you play, an overall score that lets you measure your overall accuracy in performing an exercise and a score to compare how you have fared when compared with others on the same exercise. While this program presents itself as a video game, the learning theory upon which the game is based and the music fundamentals are very solid. Commit to mastering the lessons within the first course and you will have a solid foundation for future learning. Self-paced mastery with quality feedback is a powerful engine for successful learning. This is really the essence of the Rock Prodigy Course. You have a great deal of control in how you proceed through the course. You can review lessons as often as you wish, loop exercises to perform at different speeds, set the program to stop if you miss a note, change the order in which you complete exercises, and much more. The program is organized into lessons, lesson challenges, exercises, and milestones. Lesson challenges provide you with performance challenge at the beginning of a unit so that a player may choose to jump ahead if material is too easy. Milestones are basically songs that have you apply the material from recently learned lessons and exercises. It is quite fun to be able to make music and play with a backing track so early in the learning process. Depending upon your learning style it may be helpful to grab a music theory book (I used Music Theory for Dummies) as a companion and reference to the course. There are also helpful video lessons available from the Rock Prodigy site that support and demonstrate some of the material. There is a social media site where you can share your learning and learn from others as you move through the courses. If you have a question or concern the Rock Prodigy folks are quick to respond. Great customer service.
    I can’t wait for them to develop more courses.
