Protec Deluxe Padded Music Folder – Black

Two local community bands that I’m in use standard unpadded music folders that are 12 3/4″ wide x 14 1/4″ high x 1/4″ thick, with two pockets that can each accommodate 3/4″ of music. This Protec folder is 11 3/4″ wide x 13 3/4″ high x ½” thick, with pockets that can each hold an inch of music. Either folder is sufficiently large for any band music in our band’s huge library.

For use by an individual, the padding is a nice touch. However, if used by a large band in volume, the extra 1/4″ thickness per folder could be a storage issue if folders are stored centrally. That is, for every four Protec padded folders, an additional inch in storage space would be needed, versus unpadded folders.

The Protec is nicely made with a soft black exterior vinyl, a stiff cardboard backing, brass-plated steel corner reinforcements, and is well-stitched. There’s an interior pencil holder. The only issue is that if you leave the folder on the stand, any music placed against it will need to be clipped on somehow. That’s because the folder’s pocket flaps sometimes won’t allow music to lay flat. Personally, I keep the folder in my gig bag while pulling out only the charts being played. But, this could be an issue for some players/singers.

I needed two folders, but bought only one to check out the quality. I’ll be getting another one…
