Prince Harry Can’t Hide His Enthusiasm for the Rugby World

If rugby is ever mentioned in London, let’s just assume Prince Harry is involved!

It certainly was the case Wednesday morning when the royal family member helped launch the Rugby World Cup trophy tour across the U.K. and Ireland.

With exactly 100 days until the tournament kicks off, fellow players Jonny Wilkinson and Will Greenwood joined the prince at Twickenham Stadium to kick off the cup’s journey.

“Rugby is a game built on values—respect, pride, team work and discipline. In 100 days’ time, England and Cardiff will play host to an incredible festival of rugby with the world’s best players, the world’s best teams and of course the world’s greatest fans demonstrating these values,” Prince Harry told fans. “As we have shown with the Olympics, Commonwealth and Invictus Games, we are a nation of great hosts; a nation that seizes the moment. The world will be expecting us to deliver and I know we won’t disappoint.”

More stars who are big sports fans

As the president of England Rugby, the organizing committee staging the tournament, Harry certainly knows the sport. But with the tournament coming to London, the 30-year-old hopes more sports fans will get excited about the games.

“This tournament—the most significant moment in English Rugby since that night in Sydney in 2003—has the ability to broaden the reach of the game and deliver a long lasting legacy for the sport,” he explained. “With 48 matches spread across the country, I hope that every community can be part of this tournament and celebrate the game of rugby.”

As for who Harry will be rooting for when the games begin later this summer, we think a safe assumption is England.

More hot young members of royalty

For several years, Prinz William‘s younger brother has stood in the stands of Twickenham Stadium rooting for the boys in white. He’s even made “good luck” videos for the team.

“Make sure you win every single one of them. You’re going to have all the support here,” he told the team before one important match. “Let’s bring it home. Let’s make it happen!”
