Netflix Orders Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin Sitcom, ‘Grace And

Netflix has placed a straight to series, 13-episode order of new comedy show Grace and Frankie, which will star Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. The half hour-long, single camera episodes will help flesh out the online streaming subscription service’s originals line-up, joining the likes of Arrested Development, House of Cards and Orange is the New Black.

Set to premiere in summer 2015, the show will reunite the stars of the 1980 feature hit 9 to 5 who will play two longtime rivals who are brought together when their husbands decide to run off together to get married. “The women find their lives both turned upside down and to their dismay, permanently intertwined. Eventually, to their surprise, they find they have each other,” states Netflix, via LA Times.

“Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are among the funniest and most formidable actresses ever and it’s an incredible privilege to give them the opportunity to run riot on Netflix,” Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said, announcing the order. “The show created for them by Marta and Howard is warm, very funny and anything but wholesome. We can’t wait.”

Grace and Frankie has been created by Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris (‘Sullivan & Son’) with Paula Weinstein and David Ellison producing and Fonda, Tomlin, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross exec producing.

There are high hopes for Grace and Frankie and it looks like TV show veterans Fonda (‘The Newsroom’) and Tomlin (‘Web Therapy’) will be able to pull things off come mid-2015. With two Oscar wins and another nomination between them, both actresses are hard-working, talented and popular enough to see the show to success.
