TNT has opted not to pick up a fourth season of crime drama Murder in the First. The series, created by Steven Bochco and Eric Lodal, was a departure for TNT when it premiered in 2014 as it was an anthology — each serialized season chronicling one murder investigation — instead of a standard procedural like the network’s other crime dramas of the past decade, including hits The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles.

Murder In the First was set in San Francisco and starred Taye Diggs as homicide inspector Terry English and Kathleen Robertson as his partner Hildy Mulligan. Ian Anthony Dale, Raphael Sbarge, Lombardo Boyar, Currie Graham and Mimi Kirkland co-starred.

The third and now final season wrapped its run on Sept. 4. The show actually ended on a high note, with the Season 3 finale hitting a season high audience of 1.6 million viewers in Live+same day.

TNT has been clearing the decks for the new crop of darker, provocative TNT dramas developed by the network’s current regime. The rollout started this past summer with Animal Kingdom, with Good Behavior starring Michelle Dockery set to premiere next.
