A trio of freshmen series won their first Emmys tonight with Mr. Robot, Jessica Jones, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend each taking home statuettes at the 68th Creative Arts Emmys.

The wins – Netflix’s Jessica Jones won Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music, while the CW’s Crazy Ex Girlfriend won for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Comedy Series – were vindication of a sort. The shows were considered two of this year’s notable Primetime Emmys snubs, receiving no major nominations despite widespread acclaim and red hot social media traction. (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend won the best comedy series actress Golden Globe for star Rachel Bloom.) The two freshmen still received multiple nominations and even faced off against one another for the trophy Jessica Jones ultimately won tonight.

Meanwhile the win for USA Network’s critical darling might be the first of many this year. Tonight Mr. Robot series composer Mac Quayle won Outstanding Music Composition For A Series (Original Dramatic Score) for the episode “eps1.0_ hellofriend. mov”, one of two nominations tonight with another Creative Emmy nomination tomorrow. And next week at the main event, Mr. Robot is in contention for three more awards including Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor, and writing.

Crazy Ex Girlfriend, by the way, is also still in contention for a Creative Emmy, nominated for Outstanding Choreography which will be presented tomorrow during the Creative Emmys’ second night.
