The Glee star took on the role of playwright J.M. Barrie in the Peter Pan origins story earlier this year (15) and won an Audience Choice Award for his part.
It has not been announced who will replace him after he appears in his last show on 24 January (16).
According to reports, producer Harvey Weinstein is eyeing Chris Pine to step into the lead role, but it is unclear if negotiations have taken place.
The production is based on the 2004 movie starring Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet.
