Justin Timberlake: Michael Jackson Inspired My Solo Career

After breaking away from ‘N Sync in the early 2000s, Justin Timberlake’s solo career skyrocketed.

During his interview on “ Oprah’s Master Class,” the “Sexy Back” singer explains that he found his inspiration to head off on his own from Michael Jackson.

In 2001, Justin originally wrote the boy band’s hit “Gone” for Jackson and stated that it was the first song he “king of cut” by himself.

“It was one of those songs where it felt a little more personal to me, because I had written it for the biggest artist of all time,” Timberlake added.

‘N Sync ended up recording the tune because Jackson’s people turned it down. “I guess Michael did hear it, and called me on the phone and said that he wanted to cut the record,” Timberlake explains, “but he wanted it to be a duet between himself and I.”

“I’m literally punching myself in the face because I said I can’t do that,” he recalls.

Justin’s interview airs on May 11. Check out the clip below!
