The Footloose star appears alongside De Niro and Zac Efron in the film, and Julianne confesses she had to psych herself up to approach the Raging Bull icon in between takes.
However, the meeting didn’t quite go to plan as Julianne’s mind went blank as she opened her mouth to speak to the 72-year-old.
“I was very nervous to meet him; he’s Robert De Niro!” she exclaims to U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America. “I was like, I have to act cool and know what I’m talking about, so I needed to go talk to him and I had no idea what I was going to say, but I’m like, ‘Do you like clementines?’ He’s like, ‘Not really.’ I’m like, ‘All right, see you later!'”
Julianne portrays Zac’s demanding, foul-mouthed bride-to-be in the upcoming movie, and she felt the need to explain herself to her real-life fiance, ice hockey player Brooks Laich, after the trailer was first released.
“I was like, ‘Hey, hon, when you see this movie, don’t get any ideas. This is not who I am,'” Julianne laughs to the New York Daily News.
While the sportsman, who proposed in August (15), will no doubt check out Julianne’s latest work, the dancer-turned-actress’ religious relatives are less likely to do so because the comedy is so raunchy.
“Dirty Grandpa is probably the dirtiest movie I’ve ever seen,” she explains. “It’s hilarious and revolting at the same time… My grandparents on both sides of the family are Mormons, so I’m pretty sure they’re not going to see it.”
The project is a departure from the 27-year-old’s usual family-friendly films, but she enjoyed exploring her bad girl persona for her onscreen character.
“I might not talk like that all the time, but I can let some F-bombs slip from time to time!” she reveals.
