With nine Grammy Awards on his mantle and the ultimate trophy wife in Chrissy Teigen, John Legend is a well-decorated man.
The “All of Me” singer is on the cover of the December/January 2015 issue of Los Angeles Confidential magazine and he can’t help but gush about his leading lady.
John shares that while he’s madly in love with Chrissy now, that wasn’t initially the case- “Not right away. I’m more cautious than that. I wasn’t like, ‘This is the woman I’m going to marry,’ from day one. For me I’m the kind of person who needs to grow into that feeling. It was probably a couple of years in when I could already see us being together forever.”
Legend also credits Teigen for inspiring All of Me- “The more you know someone, the more you’re inspired by your relationship. Also, I grew up just learning what it means to be in love with somebody… because I had never really been in love before. I guess you have to grow enough to be able to write that song with sincerity and authenticity.”
Speaking of growing up, “I was a very precocious kid, so I was very thirsty for learning. I wanted to learn the piano. I wanted to study the encyclopedia. I wanted to do everything. I just wanted to soak up a lot of knowledge.”
And as for his experience performing in church as a kid, John notes, “When I was singing in church, people will let you know how they feel pretty quickly. You can feel the energy of the congregation, and you get a sense of whether they like what you’re doing, if you did a good job. That was very tangible to me. It was very addicting too, that feeling of affirmation and love, just feeling the elevation of the spirit and excitement of the crowd.”
