Jay Z is nowhere close to calling his latest business venture a failure. In fact, he’s ready to sing its praises.

Just a few days after his Tidal App suffered a major fall on the United States iPhone download chart (it wasn’t even in the top 700), the rapper decided to defend his streaming service in a series of tweets posted Sunday afternoon.

“Tidal is doing just fine. We have over 770,000 subs. We have been in business for less than one month,” he tweeted. “The iTunes Store wasn’t built in a day. It took Spotify 9 years to be successful….”

He continued, “We are here for the long haul. Please give us a chance to grow & get better.”

When the music mogul first launched the app in March, music fans were buzzing about the new service. After all, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Beyonce and many others were totally on board to bring their new music directly to the company.

But between paying $ 10 a month for digital audio-quality or $ 20 a month for CD-quality sound, some began to wonder if it was worth the price.

In response to the critics, Jay Z assured fans that his business venture is much more than some catchy tunes.

“We made Tidal for fans. We have more than just music. We have video, exclusive concerts, tickets for events early, live sports!” he tweeted. “Tidal is where artists can give their fans more without the middlemen.”

Major celebrity collaborations

So than why does it seem like there are more than just a couple not-so-nice headlines surrounding the business? The “99 Problems” crooner has a theory.

“There are many big companies that are spending millions on a smear campaign. We are not anti-anyone, we are pro-artist & fan. #TidalFacts,” he explained. “Our actions will speak louder than words. We made Tidal to bring people the best experiences and to help artists give that to their fans over and over again.”

He concluded, “We are human (even Daft Punk ha). We aren’t perfect—but we are determined. #TidalFacts”
