Ok, so it’s that time of year again. Summer is over and the major studios have shut up shop to prepare for the fall. It’s traditionally a baron wasteland for movies though look hard enough and you’ll almost certainly find a couple of indie gems. Innocence is not one of the those movies.
Sophie Curtis stars in ‘Innocence’
Starring relative newcomer Sophie Curtis, Innocence follows a young woman who discovers her elite Manhattan preparatory school harbors a dark secret. It must be noted at this point that the movie has no connection to the 2005 French movie of the same name, about a six-year-old girl who arrives at a remote boarding school. That movie was dark, disturbing and fascinating – this Innocence is terrible.

“A movie of such snowballing stupidity that it’s a wonder the actors could keep straight faces while shooting it (outtakes, please!),” said Gary Goldstein of the Los Angeles Times.
“If this nonsense is the stuff of nightmares for most modern teenage girls, who seem genetically predisposed to roll their eyes at anything a parent or teacher does, I’d be very surprised,” said Michael O’Sullivan of the Washington Post.
Sophie Curtis last appeared in ‘At Any Price’
“Moves to the formulaic beats of the second-rate TV movie, albeit one cloaked in an ultra-glossy sheen,” wrote Jeannette Catsoulis of the New York Times.
“Sadly, the movie is weakly paced and sinister only when Pamela coos oh-so-sympathetically in people’s ears,” said Graham Fuller of the New York Daily News.
So there you have it. Probably don’t see Innocence this weekend. Forrest Gump, anyone?
