One of Hugh Jackman‘s mantras has been “Happy wife, happy life.”
And that seems to have worked out for him!
Based on the loving things he’s had to say about wife Debora-Lee Furness over the years, coupled with the inspiring consistency of their enduring relationship, we’re going to go out on a limb and guess that he’s one happy husband, too.
The spouses are celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary today—a milestone that, to be frank, has become increasingly rare in the showbiz world.
But their love train doesn’t look like it’s stopping any time soon. While appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres show in February, Jackman gushed about his successful marriage, saying that it gets “better and better” with time.
Just like a fine wine…
Hugh Jackman: Movie Star!
The actors met in 1995 on the set of the Australian TV series Correlli, when Jackman was 26 and Furness was 39, and the eventual Wolverine star was smitten right away. He recalled to Ellen how he had a “major crush” on Deborra-Lee—as did the whole crew, he added.
But wouldn’t you know…she fancied him back, and the rest is history.
During the first few months of the relationship, Hugh already planned on marrying his new girlfriend—but he tried to play it cool.
“I decided, I won’t ask her to marry me for six months,” Jackman revealed in the October 2013 issue of Town & Country, “Then after four months I thought, ‘That’s the most ridiculous rule!'”

Swoon…
Fast-forward 20 years and Jackman is known as a most multi-talented star of stage and screen. Furness enjoyed an acting career of her own, but her interests expanded into producing, directing and writing. The couple also adopted two children together, daughter Ava Eliot Jackman and son Oscar Maximilian Jackman.
To commemorate the devoted duo’s decades-spanning romance, we’ve gathered their sweetest photos through the years—each one an impressive picture of love and companionship.
