Following their BNM’d 2010 album One Life Stand, it’s been a quiet 2011 for Hot Chip, but the band members have kept busy with a string of side projects while they work on the next Hot Chip record, which they plan to release next year.

Alexis Taylor released an album with About Group and scored a film. Joe Goddard issued a solo EP on DFA, Gabriel, in August. (Check out the title track here and the video here.) Goddard has also been working on his house-oriented project the 2 Bears with DJ Raf Rundell. They’ll release their debut album, Be Strong, on January 30 via Southern Fried. The 2 Bears recently remixed the likes of Junior Boys and Cults, as well as Death Cab for Cutie’s “You Are a Tourist”, which appears on the band’s forthcoming Keys and Codes Remixes EP. Stream it here.

Now, Al Doyle and Felix Martin (along with Tom Hopkins) are ready to unleash their long-in-the-works project New Build, formerly known as Lanark. Their debut 12″ single, “Misery Loves Company”, is out November 28, in a run of 500, via their own Lanark imprint. Check out the title track and cover art (designed by Martin’s father Andy), above.

The three-track 12″ features vocals from Planningtorock, as well as a remix of her track “Finding Reasons”. LCD Soundsystem’s Pat Mahoney drums on the track “Guitar Man”. New Build will perform their first show on November 29 at London’s Electrowerkz. A full-length record and tour will come in early 2012.

Meanwhile, Martin has been doing remixes under his own name, as well as under the pseudonym Billy Lock, reserved for harder techno reworks. Billy Lock’s Planningtorock remix recently appeared on the “Living It Out” remix EP, out on DFA.
