There’s nothing conventional about his look, sound or approach, and yet Ed Sheeran is one of the most prolific pop stars in recent memory.

The “Don’t” crooner told Glamour magazine’s June 2015 issue that things weren’t easy early on-

“It was hard, but throwing in the towel never made any sense to me. Simply, I didn’t have a plan B. My dad gave me an article on [British singer] James Morrison that said he played 200 shows a year and eventually got signed. So I set out to play more than 300. When I started, I wasn’t that good, but I knew if I just kept playing, I’d get better.”

And along the way he ended up becoming besties with Taylor Swift- “The first time Taylor and I really connected was just hanging out at her place. We grabbed our guitars and started writing songs, including ‘Everything Has Changed.’ She has a very clear idea of what she wants to do sonically.”
