Clay Adler, who starred on MTV’s Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County reality series, has died. He was 27.
“We are saddened by the news of Clay Adler’s passing,” MTV said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time.”
TMZ, which first reported Adler’s death, cites law enforcement sources as saying Adler intentionally shot himself on March 25 during a trip to the desert with friends and died of a gunshot wound the following day in a hospital.
Adler starred on the first season of Newport Harbor in 2007. The show, which followed the lives of several teenagers living in the affluent oceanside community of Newport Harbor in Orange County, CA, ran for two seasons 2007-2008. He also appeared on then-ABC Family/Freeform’s Make It Or Break dramedy in 2009.
