Chris McKay says ”anything can happen” in regards to the solo ‘Nightwing’ movie.
The ‘Lego Batman Movie’ director has spoke briefly about his plans on getting DC Comics’ superhero Robin Dick Grayson his very own standalone movie, but he admits he is yet to write up a contract for the film.
He told website monkeysfightingrobots.com: ”There’s not much I can talk about the movie. I don’t even have a contract. Anything can happen.”
McKay said he is keen for the ‘Nightwing’ movie because he sees similarities in Bruce Wayne and Grayson and how despite being faced with so many ”negatives” they still remain.
He told the Shanlian Batman podcast: ”They’re people who live hand-to-mouth and that’s something that informs him and his attitude.
”He’s a fascinating guy to me because he had all the same things happen to him. He’s got some of the same negatives as Bruce Wayne and then from a society standpoint – obviously he was adopted into Bruce Wayne’s life – but he didn’t start that way. He’s this guy who has all these negatives and then even more negatives and yet he remains. Those are things why I like Dick Grayson, why I like the idea of ‘Nightwing’ as a movie.”
Warner Bros. Pictures is keen to expand the Bat Family’s presence in the DC Extended Universe.
The script for the project is reportedly being written by ‘The Accountant’s Bill Dubuque and it will be the first time Grayson will be seen in the DCEU as a lead character.
McKay’s animated ‘Lego Batman Movie’ has been universally praised and Warner Bros. are keen for him to bring his humour and understanding of the Batman characters to ‘Nightwing’.
The comic book history of Grayson mirrors the tragedy of Bruce Wayne’s as he was the youngest member of a family of acrobats, known as The Flying Graysons, His parents were murdered and Bruce then takes him under his wing and he eventually becomes his alter ego Batman’s sidekick.
