When the going gets tough, you don’t want a criminal lawyer… You want a criminal lawyer. Or, maybe just a comedic memoirist? If so, you’re in luck. Bob Odenkirk – that’s Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul‘s Saul Goodman, Esq to you – has signed a deal with Random House to pen a book of personal essays offering a comedic look back on his life and career.
Starting with his early improv and sketch comedy years, the book will cover career highlights including his stints writing for shows like Saturday Night Life and Late Night with Conan O’Brien, as well as his comedy partnership with David Cross that spawned the groundbreaking 90s sketch comedy series Mr Show with Bob and David and its Netflix sequel W/Bob And David. And of course the iconic sleazebag lawyer Jimmy McGill (AKA Goodman) that he’s played on AMC since 2009.
The book will be “a comic ‘bildungsroman,’ if you will – defined by Webster’s Dictionary as ‘a novel about the moral and psychological growth of the main character,’ – except, this will be more memoir and the main character, Bob Odenkirk (actor, writer, comedian, gadabout), doesn’t grow morally or psychologically,” said Odenkirk in a statement about the book.
Currently nominated for an Emmy for lead actor for his work on Saul, Odenkirk has previously won two Emmys, a SAG Award, a Critics Choice Television Award, alongside numerous nominations. He’s repped by WME, Odenkirk-Provissiero, Ziffren Brittenham LLC and 42 West.
