ABC has given a Back 9 order to new comedy series American Housewife, bringing its freshman run to a full-season 22 episodes. The pickup comes after four airings of the single-camera comedy, from ABC Studios and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. Meanwhile sophomore ABC comedy The Real O’Neals has received a three-episode back order, bringing its second season to 16 episodes.

American Housewife has been a breakout for ABC. Launching without the protection of the network’s established Wednesday comedy block, it has ranked as the highest-rated ABC program on Tuesday night from the start, regularly building onto its lead-in, veteran The Middle, by 14% on average.

Overall, American Housewives has ranked as Tuesday’s No. 1 comedy this season in Total Viewers (7.7 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.4). It is improving its 8:30 PM time period year-to-year by 2.1 million viewers and by +9% in Adults 18-49.

Created by Sarah Dunn, American Housewife stars Katy Mixon as a confident, unapologetic wife and mother of three who raises her flawed family in the wealthy town of Westport, Connecticut, filled with “perfect” mommies and their “perfect” offspring. Diedrich Bader, Meg Donnelly, Daniel DiMaggio, Julia Butters, Carly Hughes and Ali Wong co-star. Dunn executive produces with Kaplan, Rick Weiner and Kenny Schwartz.

The Real O’Neals, also from ABC Studios, has been shaky in its return after a promising start and solid reviews last spring when it landed a 13-episode Season 2 order. It has logged the lowest ratings for ABC on Tuesday, most recently 1.2 among adults 18-49 in Live+3.

The Real O’Neals stars Martha Plimpton, Jay R. Ferguson, Noah Galvin, Matt Shively, Bebe Wood and Mary Hollis Inboden. Executive producers of the series are Casey Johnson, David Windsor, Stacy Traub, Dan Savage, Brian Pines, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Dan McDermott and Todd Holland.
