Dick Wolf is singlehandedly responsible for five series and one miniseries on NBC during the 2016-17 season. (For those keeping track, that’s Law & Order: SVU, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., Chicago Med, Chicago Justice and the upcoming Law & Order: True Crime miniseries about the Menendez brothers.) But that doesn’t mean he’s run out of ideas—in fact, he’s already been talking to NBC about his next big franchise.

NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt said during a panel at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that he wasn’t certain the network would be pursuing a fifth spin-off in the Chicago franchise, but he’ll always be interested in the creator’s ideas.

“Every time I think Dick Wolf has finished what he started he comes up with a new idea. And I usually go oh, now let’s think about that. Is that really the right way to go? Is that a good idea? And more often than not he proves me to be wrong. So I don’t know,” he pondered. “Conventional wisdom would probably say if you get one spinoff, you’re probably in the 99th percentile of success, but to have three spin-offs, I probably think we’re gilding the lily if we go beyond that but I will never, never count Dick Wolf out if he has a great idea and great execution.”

But NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke said that after Wolf’s two newest shows premiere, the network could launch a new franchise with the prolific creator.

“I’d look to see Chicago stabilize and then look forward to the Menendez miniseries coming out of the Law & Order brand and then look to New York for possibly another crime franchise down the line,” she said.

After the panel, she told E! News and a small group of reporters that the new New York show wouldn’t be another Law & Order show but rather “something different in the world of FBI.”

In fact, the network and Wolf have already had talks about the potential franchise. “We don’t have writers or anything, but we’ve had just general conversations about that being an area that Dick’s very interested in and that we would be very supportive in exploring.”
