The New Girl actress and her husband, producer Jacob Pechenik, welcomed their daughter Elsie in July, 2015, and while they have embraced all parenthood has to offer them, the perks of having a baby in tow haven’t always lived up to expectations.
“Travelling I think is really hard,” she explains about the struggles of being a mother on Monday’s (24Oct16) episode of The Ellen Degeneres Show. “She’s great on a plane but they stop letting people go first with babies and there’s so much stuff.
“I was really excited about this privilege that you get to go on first if you have a baby. The first time we went on a plane with her I was like, ‘OK, we’re ready!’ and they (the staff) were like, ‘No, you can’t come on (yet)… The people who get on first pay a lot of money for this privilege.'”
When quizzed by host Ellen about which airline Zooey used, the actress jokingly stated it rhymed with ‘Bamerican’, leading many to suspect she was referring to American Airlines.
The incident didn’t put a dampener on things though, and now at 14 months old, little Elsie is beginning to talk, much to the delight of her relatives.
“She says a lot of words but she’s really obsessed with hats right now,” Zooey smiled. “My mom wears hats a lot and we had dinner with her and as soon as my mom came out, my daughter said, ‘Hat! Hat!’ She wasn’t wearing one… And then someone came into the restaurant wearing one and (Elsie) was like (points), ‘HAT! HAT!’ pointing across the restaurant.”
The brunette star adds she thinks Elsie says ‘hat’ so often, even when there aren’t any around, because she’s proud she recognises them.
Zooey, 36, also touched upon her new animated film, Trolls, admitting she loved working on it so much because she didn’t have to dress up or put make-up on for the part.
