Where Does The Good Wife Rank Among the Best and Worst TV Series Finales of All Time?

The Good Wife ended and nothing was tied up. Well, that’s not true, Peter’s umpteenth scandal was wrapped up. Regardless, it wasn’t the series finale many had hoped for, according to you (for the record, the TV Scoop team was into it).

When The Good Wife ended, we asked if you loved or hated the finale? The results: 68.7 percent hated it and 31.3 percent loved it.

“The people I think who really get the show, who really understand the best of what this show is will totally get it,” Christine Baranski told us ahead of the series finale.

Series creators Robert and Michelle King were asked by CBS to explain the ending that seemed to galvanize audiences, noting Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) realized she became everything she hated about her husband, Peter (Chris Noth) and politics. That realization was spurred by a slap from Diane (Baranski) after Alicia instructed Lucca (Cush Jumbo) to undercut Diane’s husband (Gary Cole) in court in order to save Peter from going to prison once again.

“We started with this feeling that it should begin with a slap and end with a slap. The show is about a woman who becomes more and more confident and more and more cunning and excited about her abilities and also about power. So that slap at the end is very similar to the slap at the beginning. We always had this idea of Alicia becoming more and more of something that she also was not liking in her husband,” series co-creator Robert King said.
