For those of you not strong in The Force, tonight sees the red carpet world premiere of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on Hollywood blvd here in Los Angeles. I’m not there and you’re not there – Deadline is on the scene of course, and our coverage will be coming later – but together we can perhaps enjoy the almost-next best thing, as the official Star Wars site is livestreaming the premiere. Along with live red carpet stuff, there’s actual content promised, including behind the scenes videos and exclusive clips. Trust your feelings and watch it above now.
The Star Wars sorta prequel, the first of at least three planned stand-alone films fleshing out the Star Wars universe, tells the story of just how the Rebel Alliance came into possession of those Death Star plans everyone was looking for in Star Wars: A New Hope. Riffing off films like The Dirty Dozen, it follows the ragtag group of rebel operatives tasked with stealing the plans from the Empire.
Directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy, it stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Tudyk, Jiang Wen, and Forest Whitaker. Those of us not able to attend tonight’s premiere don’t have to wait much longer to see it ourselves – Rogue One hits theaters December 16.
