Move over, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), there’s a new Flash in town. Actually, the original Flash is coming to town!
After teasing his introduction in the season one finale, The Flash is officially introducing Jay Garrick when it returns for its second season. And at the WBTV Presents a Night of DC Entertainment event at Comic-Con on Saturday night, it was revealed that Masters of Sex‘s Teddy Sears will be taking on the iconic DC Comics role.
“Having Jay Garrick come onto the show was one of our earliest ideas. It is so exciting, as we rush into season two, that we finally get to bring the Crimson Comet to life,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement. “We couldn’t imagine anyone more suited to play the original Flash than Teddy.”

Of course, Jay is a character fans of the comic books definitely know well as he is actually the first DC Comics character to take on the mantle of The Flash. As for his introduction on the CW series, fans can expect Jay to be a mysterious figure who arrives in town to warn Barry and the S.T.A.R. Labs team of an impending danger that he alone cannot hope to stop.
Oh, but Jay isn’t the only new character coming to Central City in season two. One Tree Hill‘s Shantel VanSanten is set to play Patty Spivot, a new addition to The Flash’s comic book history. Patty is a police officer and science enthusiast who catches the eye of Barry Allen, and her obsession with metahumans will lead her to partner with Joe (Jesse L. Martin). And it sounds like Iris (Candice Patton) and Arrow‘s Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) should definitely watch out for Patty.
Of VanSanten’s casting, Kreisberg said, “We were huge fans of The Messengers and are excited to have Shantel join us to help complicate Barry Allen’s love life in season two.”
The Flash season two premieres on Oct. 6 on the CW.
