ABC is developing Head Games, a neurotic thriller drama from The Art of More creator Chuck Rose, Viola Davis & Julius Tennon’ JuVee Productions and ABC Studios. This marks the first sale since JuVee in April inked an overall deal with ABC Studios and brought in Andrew Wang as Head of Television Development and Production.
Head Games is written by Rose based on his book. It follows Dr. Jonah Hoffman, a Park Avenue psychiatrist, who is approached by the government to come work for them as a spy, feeding them crucial intel on one of his patients, a potential national security threat. As Jonah enters a duplicitous world filled with danger and paranoia, he begins to realize the only way to save the world is to trust himself and take action.
“I wanted to tell a story that dealt with the fear and paranoia that we’re all dealing with right now,” Rose said. “But also to tell a story about family. And how the two forces affect each other. Viola and the folks at JuVee’s passion and commitment to telling character driven stories that are timely and relevant made them the perfect fit for Head Games.”
Rose executive produces the project alongside Davis and Tennon through JuVee where Head Games will be overseen by Wang.
“We are absolutely excited to bring this refreshing new take on a neurotic thriller to ABC,” Davis said. “Chuck Rose has created such a unique and dynamic character-centric world we can’t wait to dive into.”
Head Games is being developed “in the JuVee tradition of creating compelling content that is reflective of the zeitgeist, and takes you on thrill ride,” Wang added.
Rose’s The Art of More marked Crackle’s entry into the original drama space. The series, starring Dennis Quaid, just wrapped its second season. Rose made his foray into Hollywood as an accomplished playwright.
JuVee Productions is repped by CAA. Rose is repped by APA, Management 360, and attorney Mark Temple.
