Victoria, the his ITV series starring Jenna Coleman as the young queen, has been renewed for a second season. The move comes ahead of the show’s U.S. premiere January 15 on Masterpiece on PBS.
The series has averaging 7.7 million viewers in the UK since its August bow on ITV, making it the network’s top drama of the year to date. It has been reigning against the competition for ITV, topping BBC One’s Poldark, and has been eyed as a strong replacement for the now-departed Downton Abbey on Sunday nights.
Tom Hughes co-stars as Victoria’s husband Prince Albert. Daisy Goodwin created, written and executive produced the series, which is directed by Tom Vaughn.
Victoria is a co-production of Mammoth Screen and Masterpiece.
