Fans were outraged when they saw young Stella sporting unnatural, platinum blonde locks in a photo campaign for luxury children’s accessories brand MODERN QUEEN Kids, released last November (15).
But Tori doesn’t think she is a poor parent for allowing her daughter to experiment with her hair colour.
“It was a choice I made that I made with my daughter,” she explains to People Now. “That was a personal choice. It was something she wanted to do. It was something I agreed to do with her during the summer break.”
Tori is convinced allowing little Stella to change the hue of her ‘do was not a reckless decision, although many critics have expressed concern over exposing the child to the harsh and potentially toxic chemicals used in hair dye.
The 42-year-old former Beverly Hills, 90210 star, who shares four young children with husband Dean McDermott, thinks giving Stella permission to go through with the beauty treatment has staved off future rebellion.
“The more we (my husband and I) tell (our children not to do things), the more they’re going to say, ‘Now I’m curious about it because I’m not allowed to do it’,” she explains. “Stella did it. She was 7 (years old) and she got it out of her system.”
Tori, who is the daughter of late film and television producer Aaron Spelling, has been involved in the entertainment business since childhood and over the years, she’s grown used to the scrutiny that comes with being in the spotlight.
“Everything we do, I feel like, there’s some people that are like, ‘Great!’ and some people, ‘Not so great,'” she said of being part of a celebrity family. “That’s just part of being in the public eye.”
