Girls‘ alum Chris Abbott, Abby Miller (Justified) and Dohn Norwood (Hell on Wheels) have been cast in regular roles opposite Jessica Biel and Bill Pullman in USA Network’s crime drama pilot The Sinner.
Created and written by Derek Simonds based on Petra Hammesfahr’s book and executive produced by Biel, The Sinner focuses on Cora Tanner (Biel), a young mother who, overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, commits a startling and very public act of violence — and to her horror has no idea why.
Abbott plays Mason Tannetti, an air conditioning installer working for his parents’ business who’s happily married to Cora (Biel) until a sudden act of violence upends their domestic equilibrium and forces him to face the lurking shadows in his marriage. Miller will portray Caitlin Sullivan, a young, ambitious cop whose personal connection to Cora (Biel) and Mason Tannetti complicates her performance on the job, and eventually changes the course of the investigation. Norwood is Detective Dan Leroy, protégé’ of Detective Ambrose (Pullman) who has to navigate the awkward territory between respecting Ambrose’s outlier instincts and doing what he thinks is right.
The pilot is also executive produced by Biel’s producing partner Michelle Purple through their company Iron Ocean Films and Charlie Gogolak. Antonio Campos will direct the pilot and also serve as an executive producer. Universal Cable Productions is the studio.
Abbott’s starring role in James White garnered him best actor nominations from both the Independent Spirit Awards and Gotham Awards. He played Charlie for two seasons on HBO’s Girls and will next been in features Katie Says Goodbye and It Comes at Night. He’s repped by WME and manager Gene Parseghian.
Miller, known for her turn as Ellen May on FX’s Justified, most recently recurred on NBC’s Aquarius and Syfy’s The Magicians. Her feature work includes indie Congratulations, which she also co-wrote. She’s repped by Principal Entertainment, L.A. and attorney Cheryl M. Snow.
