Two and a half weeks into the fall season, the CW joined the fray last night with the return of flagship drama The Flash and the debut of new comedy No Tomorrow.
The Flash opened its third season with a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating and 3.1 million total viewers, off both from its sophomore opener (1.4, 3.6 million) and finale (1.3, 3.4 million). But the Live+same day erosion was modest (there could be upward adjustments later), and in its core adults 18-34 demo, The Flash matched its Season 2 premiere and finales (1.1 rating).
No Tomorrow (0.5 in 18-49, 1.59 million) was down -29% from the iZombie opener in the slot last fall though up +4% in viewers. It was also was on par with the series debut of the CW’s flagship comedy, Jane the Virgin (1.58 in 18-49, 1.6 million), with a smaller lead-in. No Tomorrow also was on par with the debut of the now-defunct Containment behind Flash last midseason (0.5, 1.7 million) though comedies traditionally take longer to take hold.
Elsewhere in the pre-debate 8 PM hour, CBS’ NCIS (1.8, 13.9 million) surprisingly slipped -14% in the demo after a solid Week 2 hold. Fox comedies Brooklyn Nine-Nine (1.0) and New Girl (1.0) held steady, while ABC’s Dancing with the Stars (1.4) ticked up a tenth. NBC aired a Voice clip show (2.0) and is projected to win the night in the demo. CBS should take the viewership crown.
