Thandie Newton is reportedly in talks to star in the Han Solo spin-off
According to Variety, Newton is in negotiations to join the project in an unknown role. The British actress is currently gaining acclaim for her role in HBO drama ‘Westworld’, which has earned her two SAG nominations and a Golden Globe.
Last week Variety also reported that ‘Fleabag’ actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge was also in talks for a key role in the film. While Waller-Bridge’s role is unknown, Variety described it as a CGI-driven performance, similar to key Star Wars characters in the past such as Chewbacca and C-3P0.
More: Donald Glover Cast As Lando Calrissian In Han Solo Movie
Alongside Ehrenreich as Solo the film will also star Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke in an undisclosed role and Woody Harrelson as Han Solo’s mentor Garris Shrike. The film is being directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, with production beginning at the end of last month.
When filming began Miller posted an image of a clapperboard with the caption ‘Hans first shot’ on Instagram, showing that the movie had been given the the working title ‘Red Cup’.
The working title is thought to be a joking reference to the classic red cups, which are also known as ‘solo cups’. Miller’s ‘first shot’ caption was also a reference to the “who shot first?” debate from the original trilogy.
