UPDATED with video: Did you miss Rachel Maddow’s Tuesday night MSNBC program in which she revealed she had a copy of Donald Trump’s 2005 tax return? You know, the one where she kept viewers panting as she set the stage – for nearly half an hour?
Stephen Colbert re-enacted it on Wednesday’s Late Show.
“I hold in my hand something very significant,” Colbert said, dressed a la Maddow and waving a piece of paper.
“It is a joke — a joke that we have confirmed has been heard by Donald Trump.”
Breaking News flash appears:“DONALD TRUMP HAS SENSE OF HUMOR.”
“We believe this is the first time any joke connected with Donald Trump has been released.”
Maddow’s program had been so maddening that some of her viewers began to foam over, tweeting snarky lines like: “More than a million people have signed a petition demanding that Rachel Maddow release Trump’s tax returns” and “Why won’t Rachel Maddow release Donald Trump’s tax returns? What’s she hiding” – and, our personal fave, “This is SNL’s worst cold open.”
