Shia LaBeouf Apologises For Plagiarism… In Skywriting

Shia LaBeouf found himself under deep scrutiny after airing his new short film, HowardCantour.com, in December last year after some people noticed some glaring similarities between it and the Daniel Clowes comic Justin M. Damiano. As Shia continues to find himself in negative discussion, he wrote an apology to Clowes in a rather elaborate fashion, by taking to the skies.

“I am sorry Daniel Clowes,” the message hanging off the end of a skywriter plane read. LaBeouf tweeted a picture of the plane and message afterwards along with the note, “CLOUD: – vapor floating in the atmosphere – remote servers used to SHARE DATA – to make LESS CLEAR or TRANSPARENT.”

LaBeouf first came under fire when he first began airing HowardCantour.com, with some in-the-know viewers noticing the clear similarities between it and the Clowes work. When he apologised the first time around, he was called out again, because the apology seemed to be very similar to a Yahoo! Answers comment from four years ago.

He wrote at the time, “Copying isn’t particularly creative work. Being inspired by someone else’s idea to produce something new and different IS creative work. [I] got lost in the creative process and neglected to follow proper accreditation. I lifted the text, probably in one of my drunken stupors, probably approximately about a year ago. Sorry to my cast re:the massive disruption it’s caused their lives. There’s no one who wants this over more than I do. I’d like my life back.”

He sent out further apologise after this and admitted to further counts of plagiarism, admitting that his self-published Let’s F***ing Party was ripped off from a poem by Charles Bukowski. As well as this, the ‘About’ section on his website thecampaignbook.com is identical to publishing company PictureBox.

LaBeouf has a big year ahead of him, with appearances in Charlie Countryman and the two volumed Nymphomaniac making thier way into cinemas at the start of the year. He will also appear alongside Brad Pitt in the WW2 film Fury, all of which are original works.
