It’s barely 2015…but it looks like Selena Gomez has already stirred up some controversy.
The 22-year-old pop star, who rang in the New Year in the UAE with pals Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Shay Mitchell and more has removed an image from her Instagram page after the “Come and Get It” beauty began facing some serious backlash for the now-deleted pic.
In the headline-making shot, Gomez and a pal are posing together at the Abu Dhabi Grand Mosque and the singer is flashing her ankle—a sign of impropriety in the Muslim culture.
Additionally, the gang raised some eyebrows for a pic which was posted on not only Selena’s but also Kendall’s Instagram page in which the group is making silly faces and joking around in the place of worship with the former Disney star flashing her ankle once again.

Justin Bieber‘s ex has yet to respond to the backlash, simply removing the photo without providing any further commentary.
This isn’t the first time that a celeb has stirred up controversy at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, one of the United Arab Emirates’ capital’s biggest tourist attractions.
Last year, Rihanna found herself in hot water after she took a series of photos at the mosque in an area that’s normally off limits for visitors. And while her pics apparently looked fab on Instagram, the impromptu photo shoot violated the rules on the “sanctity of the mosque,” causing RiRi and her entourage to be asked to leave the compound entirely.
