Sean Price of Heltah Skeltah, Boot Camp Clik and Random Axe passed away Saturday morning at his apartment in Brooklyn. He was 43.
“It is with beyond a heavy heart that Duck Down Music is sadly confirming that Sean Price passed away early this morning in his Brooklyn apartment, Saturday, August 8th, 2015,” his rep said in a statement to E! News. “The cause of death is currently unknown, but it was reported that he died in his sleep. He’s survived by his wife, and his three children.”
As soon as the news broke, many musicians began to express their condolences on social media.
“RIP to Sean P…. So sad man. He was a huge inspiration to me,” Macklemore wrote on Twitter Saturday afternoon. “Grew up on BCC. Prayers to his family, friends and Duck Down.”

Ice-T added, “Sean Price of ‘Helta Skelta’ dies at 43…….. Waaaay too soon. RIP. Respect.”
Even loyal fans who weren’t musicians shared their love for the rapper online. Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson wrote, “RIP to the legend Sean Price. Gone way too soon.”
Price’s career took off when he joined Heltah Skeltah alongside Jahmal Bush. They released their debut album Nocturnal in 1996 before becoming a part of Boot Camp Clik.

Price would also find success in the industry as a solo artist where he created three albums under his own name. According to reports, he was scheduled to release a mixtape later this month titled Songs in the Key of Price.
For now, fans will remember Price not only for his musical gifts but for his kindness on and off the stage. “This is the worst,” Rapsody wrote on Twitter. “To the legend…and big man with a big heart and big sense of humor…we love you Sean Price. RIP.”
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.
