EXCLUSIVE: Radar Pictures has snapped up spec script Midnight from screenwriters Travis Baker and Richard Tanne. The horror-thriller described as “I Know What You Did Last Summer meets Prisoners” centers on a small-town mayor’s daughter who goes missing and the detectives, family and friends who discover she’s just the latest in the town’s dark history of mystery and murder. Baker and Tanne will serve as exec producers on Midnight, which Radar’s Ted Field and Mike Weber will produce and Alexandra Eason will co-produce.
Longtime pals and collaborators Baker and Tanne started out in horror working on Eli Roth’s Hostel before co-writing series Cinema Cool. They teamed up last year on Halloween-set slasher Mischief Night, which Baker wrote and directed, Tanne produced and Lionsgate released. Their indie comedy Worst Friends was acquired by Level 33 this summer and releases on November 4. The duo also has their sword-and-sandal Julius Caesar origin tale The Roman set up with Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson producing.
Radar’s lineup of genre fare includes thriller Under The Bed and the upcoming Kickboxer reboot starring Dave Bautista. Tanne and Baker are repped by WME, Dobre Films and Debbie Von Arx, who negotiated the deal with Radar on behalf of the scribes.
